OPEN CALL | Southeast Asia | Call for Emerging Writers | Southeast of Now 15 April 2018

Southeast of Now: Directions in Contemporary and Modern Art in Asia is committed to supporting the development of new writing in the region, and to providing an opportunity for emerging writers to develop their research and writing skills, and to engage with a broad readership in a new special section of the journal. Emerging writers (with no more than three years of publishing experience), who are citizens or permanent residents of any country in Southeast Asia, are invited to apply for the Emerging Writers Fellowship. Successful applicants will be awarded with a grant of up to USD1,000, to facilitate in-depth research and writing for a period of six months, and publication of selected essays (of between 3,000 and 5,000 words in English) in Southeast of Now, in a special Emerging Writers Fellowship section, to appear both in print and online. OPEN CALL | Hong Kong | Call for Rising Photographers | Hotel Jen 23 April 2018

Hotel Jen is on the hunt for Hong Kong’s best up-and-coming photographers. Launching its open-to-all photography competition, Hotel Jen partners with the Affordable Art Fair to showcase talent who leave boring behind by celebrating and capturing our city’s streets through their lens. This year’s theme is “discovering street scenes” to appreciate photography that is core to the social climate of the city of Hong Kong and that also aligns with Hotel Jen’s core value of urban energy. Nine aspiring photographers will be chosen to showcase their artwork to over 25,000 visitors at Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong from 17-20 May 2018. The ultimate winner, picked by the public at Affordable Art Fair, will be granted a 30-day solo exhibition in three Hotel Jen properties (Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore), with 2–3 nights’ accommodation provided at Hotel Jen in each location during the exhibition period. Produced by ArtGeminiPrize, the PhotoX Awards aims to discover and showcase international contemporary photography by artists worldwide. Photographers can enter their work across three categories for a chance to win over EURO3,000 (approx USD3,708) worth of prizes, and have their work shown and sold in two curated exhibitions in London. INTERNSHIP | Hong Kong |Art Handler| Rossi & Rossi – apply by unspecified

Rossi & Rossi is seeking a full-time art handler to work five days a week from 10 am to 6 pm. The art handler will ensure the overall safety, preservation, maintenance and documentation of artworks on view, in storage and on loan. The art handler will also manage the gallery physical space and activities, including installation and de-installation of artwork, opening and closing procedures and special events. A bachelor’s degree in art, art history, museum studies or related field or experience as an art handler will be preferred. Fluency in Cantonese and English will be required. The Chief, Conservation and Technical Research is responsible for actively contributing to the planning and production of all programming at the Canadian Photography Institute. This includes leading the technical research on photographs and related materials, and ensuring that the production of technical content for the purposes of exhibitions, publications and the web is of the highest quality. As a parallel responsibility the Chief, Conservation and Technical Research manages the Prints, Drawings and Photographs section of RCL by establishing guidelines, conducting special examinations and conservation treatments, and directing the section to ensure the proper handling, care and safety of works. OPEN CALL | South Asia | Call for Application | Curatorial Intensive South Asia 1 April 2018

Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA) is a fellowship for emerging curators from South Asia. It offers a fully-funded, two-week educational programme in New Delhi for selected participants residing in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and other eligible South Asian countries. In its establishment, CISA intends to support creative thinking by building an institutional infrastructure in South Asia for making and exhibiting contemporary art. It aims to provide both a structured and an experimental inquiry into the preconditions and possibilities of curatorial practice today. Applicants residing in South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Iran, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) are eligible to apply. Applicants must have realised 2-4 curatorial projects.
